Google will likely introduce a competitor for the iPad soon. Along with other industry giants like HP, Nokia, and Microsoft, Google is poised to enter the field in this cutting edge market blown wide open by the success of the iPad.
According to Verizon CEO Lowell McAdam an Android-based tablet will be forthcoming in partnership with Google and running Google’s Android operating system. This device is Google’s answer to the iPad.
The emerging industry segment of tablets and notebooks will certainly be interesting in the near future. It was Google’s chief executive himself who initially leaked the news at a party among friends. Eric E. Schmidt let on that the new device will run the Android operating system exclusively.
Though the sources wanted to remain unnamed because they didn’t have authorization to talk about the new product, they confirmed to the New York Times that Google had been secretly working with some publishers to secure a consistent and impressive delivery of major content in terms of magazines and books for the tablet.
Some of the major companies that will be competing in this industry segment in the near future had been delaying their products to see what the iPad offered and how it was received. We are nearing a time now when these companies will answer the challenge, and the iPad certainly did throw down the gauntlet.
The Android operating system developed by Google had been gaining ground in the fast-growing smartphone market where it competes with the iPhone.

Tablet Android Wars Heating Up - Google Tablet Coming Soon
According to reports in April of 2010 by the New York Times, Google’s impending Android Tablet Device will be essentially an e-reader but it will work like a slate-type computer running the Android operating system.
Google will partner with publishers, according to sources, in order to offer a wide variety of magazines and books through the new device.
Some of questioned Google’s choice of Android as an operating system on the new tablet android device since Google has already established its commitment to the newer Chrome operating system on netbook type devices.
Of course the reasons for choosing Android are many, including its design for use on touchscreen devices as well as its ability to deliver the many features users will appreciate (as are available on the competitor iPad by Apple).
Google Services Over Android Tablets
Also advantageous in this android tablet approach by Google is the ability to deliver a wide range of Google services to the tablet android users. Enter the cloud!
While the iPad is still employing a USB cable for much of its data acquisition, while the coming surge in cloud services may bode well for Google’s strategy.
Google is Apple’s only real competitor when it comes to apps, though the Android Marketplace is still clearly second to the App Store.
Google also acquired Gizmo, a Skype rival, and Google Voice should soon provide desktop VoIP. Additionally Google has the Google Reader to offer along with Google books.
Last but not least is the fact that Apple’s software development loop is closed and controlled while anyone can, and is encouraged to, develop software for the Android platform which is an open platform.
Internet Tablets - The Future
Whatever develops when it comes to the coming tablet wars, from iPads to tablet android devices, it is highly likely that the competition from Google and others will only drive the iPad to greater heights, and who emerges on top may be less important than the fact that consumers will have a range of choices that will provide them with ever better features at their fingertips.

Gentouch 78 Tablet Android - $150 at Kmart The Augen company is now offering a 7-inch Android 2.1 tablet that has 2 gigabytes of storage and 256 megabytes of Ram as well as WiFi. The cost is just $150 at Kmart. This new Augen tablet Android device will also be able to access the Market App Store that provides Android applications - this feature has had some initial problems that the company says will be worked out with Google. Tablet Android review continued: The Gentouch Tablet Android uses a touchscreen and is constructed of black plastic with a seven inch screen that is the perfect size for holding in one hand and reading a book or watching a movie. A micro-USB port is provided in the Gentouch 78, and there is also a 2.5 mm headphone jack as well as a microSD card slot. The display screen of the Gentouch tablet android is resistive and has a resolution of 800 x 480. The touchscreen allows you to make selections by simply tapping on the screen, and you can also use a stylus on the top of the android tablet. The Gentouch 78 is certainly not as fast as devices such as the Droid X yet you can watch YouTube videos and browse the internet as you please. While the Gentouch provides 2 GB of onboard memory, it also allows up to 16 GB of support through the microSD slot. Tablet Android Review continued: One of the best features of this ultra-low-cost tablet android is that it comes preloaded with the Google App Market. Also pre-installed is YouTube and Gmail. There are still some kinks in this device in the functionality of some of its features, and hopefully the company will resolve these problems soon. If that is the case then the low price of this device will certainly be attractive to many people who want an internet tablet device at a very low cost. Clearly there is a market as Kmart has been selling them as fast as they can stock them.
